Earlier this month, Women in Learning and Leadership (WILL) students worked with fraternities and other student organizations to start the White Ribbon Campaign on campus.

The campaign is focused on "men working to end men's violence against women." In over 55 countries, campaigns are led by both men and women, even though the focus is on educating men and boys. In some countries it is a general public education effort focused on ending violence against women.

On campus, approximately 200 people signed the pledge to stop violence and speak out against the issue.

The White Ribbon Campaign was started by men on college campuses in Canada in 1991. Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls. Wearing a white ribbon is a way of saying, "Our future has no violence against women."

WILL believes it is even more important that we continue the campaign on campus after the tragic death of Asia McGowan at Henry Ford Community College.

If you wish to get involved in the White Ribbon Campaign or WILL, please contact Dr. Benore at mparsons@umd.umich.edu.
