Right after celebrating Greek Week with fun and games, all of the fraternities and sororities on campus gathered together on April 8th to announce the Greek Awards.
This is the first year the Greek Leadership Council has sponsored the Greek Awards. The award ceremony was put on to honor the achievements of Greek organizations at the university.
This year the Greek Community took part in a newly developed Greek Standards and Assessment Program.
Representatives from each chapter attended five interviews with campus staff, faculty and alumni and were evaluated in the categories of Intellectual Development, Values Integration, Leadership Development, Positive Relationships and Citizenship.
The overall scores submitted by the evaluaters determined the Fraternity and Sorority of the Year. Phi Sigma Phi won Fraternity of the Year and Sorority of the Year was awarded to both Delta Phi Epsilon and Kappa Omega Chi.
Delta Phi Epsilon member and Greek Awards Coordinator, Eileen LaBell developed a nomination packet that included many other awards and asked for Greek organizations to submit nominees for chapter and individual recognition.
For chapter awards, organizations had to nominate another organization. For individual awards, chapters could nominate one representative from their own chapter as well as others from different chapters.
Greek life members were also encouraged to submit nominations as individuals. Once all nominations were received, representatives from each of the University Student Organizations were provided a summary and voted on the winners.
Some of the award categories included Excellence in Scholarship, Excellence in Public Relations, Greek Program of the Year, and Outstanding Membership Development.
Student Activities Supervisor Cory Anderson was awarded Advisor of the Year and the Greek Leadership Council recognized Anderson's efforts by naming an award after him. The Cory J. Anderson Living Your Ritual Award was given to Delta Phi Epsilon member Kristen McDonough.
