The winter semester is gradually coming to an end. Although it may have seemed that term papers, homework, tests and lectures dominated the lives of students, the various events that took place on campus provided relief from the cold during January, February and March.

Student organizations at the University of Michigan - Dearborn put together creative and fun events that took place in the University Center as a way for students to enjoy campus life.

There were many campus events that occurred throughout the winter that not only were amusing, but also educational.

Some of the events, which were chosen as the top five campus life events were annual celebrations, and others were new to campus life, but were quite popular with students and staff.

Winter Welcome has become a traditional event at UM-D that the Student Activities Board hosts. Free food and activities are available in Kochoff Hall to welcome incoming as well as current students back to school for the winter term.

"A Cookie for Some Nookie," which was a Valentine's Day food drive, was a new event that was sponsored by the Coalition to Solve Hunger in collaboration with WUMD.

The organization hosted the event to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank.

The Inauguration Party was a special event hosted by Student Government. Students, faculty and staff all gathered into Kochoff Hall to watch the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Another event that took place for the first time on campus was Golden Key International Honor Society's salsa themed social, "Salsa Salsa Night." Latin music was played while students were taught how to salsa dance.

The Go Red Luncheon has been a fund-raiser that university and national organizations have sponsored for the past three years to inform men and women about the risks of heart disease and raise money for the American Heart Association.

Overall, UM-D provided students with some of the best events that campus life has to offer.
