Hawkins said the opportunity to offer the plan here came about when the Cashier's department switched credit card companies.

He said this makes the office more able to "control terms and customize the payment plan."

Students who are interested in the plan can sign up now online.

Regular enrollment for the plan ends on Dec. 10.

Late enrollment for the plan runs until Jan. 13, but the first payment would then be due immediately.

Although the payment plan is mostly online, students can still make payments in person at the Cashier's Office in the University Center.

To register for the four-month payment plan, log into your secure area through UM-Dearborn Connect at https://web-sis.umd.umich.edu, click on "Student," "Student Account," then "Cashiers/Student Accounts Self-Service."

Students will be directed to the online payment plan Web site, which will load with all of the student's account information, including any financial aid the Cashier's Office has on record.

The system also allows students to set up other accounts, so that someone else can view information and make payments on behalf of the student.

Without the payment plan, tuition for Winter 2009 is due in full on Jan. 28.
