It was another disappointing week for the University of Michigan-Dearborn lacrosse team as they fell in both games they played, lowering their record to 3-7 overall.
Despite winning their first conference game of the season, the Wolves knew they had a tough week ahead of them as they headed into competition against Ferris State last Wednesday and Saginaw Valley State on Sunday.
The Bulldogs of Ferris State came out strong and took control, leading midway through the third quarter, 4-2. Although the Wolves were again shorthanded, only having four subs on the sidelines, they gave it their all and kept the contest close. Penalties against the Bulldogs should have played in the Wolves' favor, but instead, the team was not able to capitalize and the Bulldogs finished off the Wolves for an 8-2 victory.
Junior attacker Chris Cascadden scored the only points for the Wolves as he netted two goals, with assists by junior midfielder Mike Prokic and sophomore midfielder Marcus Bokas.
The next match proved to be a learning experience for the Wolves as they played against the Cardinals of SVSU.
Due to the shrunken roster, the Wolves knew it was going to be another exhausting match. UM-D decided to change the pace by switching people to different positions to keep its players as fresh as possible.
But the Cardinals did not sympathize with the Wolves, taking an 8-3 lead into the fourth quarter. Things didn't get any better in the final stanza, as the Cardinals netted two more goals in the early going.
A timeout seemed to be just what the Wolves needed as they came out and scored four unanswered goals with less than 2 minutes left of the game.
But, as time ran out, the Wolves found themselves saddled with another loss, 10-8.
Cascadden - who is currently ranked No. 8 in scoring and fourth in goals-per-game - continued his attack for the Wolves as he scored four of the team's goals. Junior attacker Brian Hanley, freshman defenseman Matt Laurinec and Bokas each contributed one goal each.
The Wolves have one more game until the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) playoffs, which takes place Friday through Sunday. The Wolves will square off against undefeated Calvin College in their last conference game. It will be played tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Henry Ford Community College soccer field.
