After a 98-70 loss to the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) first round of quarter final action on Feb. 22, the Wolves said goodbye to one more season.
Like the Lady Wolves, the men endured a season of ups and downs. Packed with its share of losses and a couple of wins, the men played each game with intensity and determination. However, only a few games had a positive outcome for the Wolves.
In their last game of the season, the Wolves took it to the Golden Eagles. However, like the two previous match-ups between the two teams, the Wolves suffered another defeat.
The Golden Eagles led the first half, walking into the second half with a comfortable 55-30 lead. Tough calls against the Wolves, resulting in 21 personal fouls, did not help the Wolves and plagued the them from closing the already big gap.
The Wolves also committed 17 turnovers and when the final buzzer went off, the Wolves were at the end of a 98-70 loss.
"It seemed liked we were playing against eight instead of five by how the referees were calling the game," John Lee said. "In the second half, we were able to cut into the lead a little but we just didn't have enough in us to overcome the big lead from the first half."
The Wolves had three players score in the double-digits, all of them juniors. Ronnie Philips led the Wolves with 13 points, plus he also grabbed five rebounds and two steals. Jordon Masters scored 12 points and nabbed five rebounds and John Travis had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Although the Wolves started off the season strong, going 4-4 during the middle of December, the final stretch for the Wolves was rough. Before going into the match against the Golden Eagles, the Wolves underwent eight losses in their past nine games. With the final loss, the Wolves finished with a 8-20 overall record and 2-12 in conference play, beating both Madonna University and Davenport University in each respective category.
