With the ride of the NBA playoffs ending in a classic, it is natural for basketball fans to miss the game. So there isn't a better time to preview this coming season with the Lady Wolves.

Coming from a 3-30 finish in their first season in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference, the stakes are high this coming year for the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team.

To describe in one phrase what the Wolves need for a successful run, junior forward/center Kandice Perryman said, "More wins!" Adding, "I think we have a good chance. We're getting some new recruits."

The Wolves, led by first year coach Charles Turner, are expected to be competitive this coming season. Turner, who also coaches the men's team said, "I feel good about the team this year; we're going to be competitive."

Turner also added, "We're getting some new girls; hopefully we'll be with the best of them, hopefully with the first four."

Athletic Director Steve Rotta said, "We decided for consistency reasons with the program that (Turner) would provide the most seamless transition (to coach the women's team.)"

Fellow faculty members have a great resounding respect for Turner and believe that he may be the man to turn the Wolves' season around.

Willie Gatling, who is a supervisor at the Fieldhouse gym, has known Turner since his years of coaching women's basketball from high school to college.

"He (Turner) comes from a tradition of women's basketball he ran successfully from college to high school," Gatling said.

Expectations are high this season for the Wolves. With Turner at the wheel this year recruitment is almost finished. Along with the core-returning players there will be two new girls whose names were not released.

The first four teams from last year, who the Lady Wolves' will have to contend with, are Cornerstone College, Indiana Tech, Aquinas College and Sienna Heights University.
