The video conference was held in the library at 9 a.m. Eastern Time, 1:00 p.m. in Morocco.
"Face to Face: Middle America & the Muslim World" is an ongoing series between students from the United States and other Muslim countries. The conference was sponsored by the members of Americans for Informed Democracy (AID) on campus.
Razi Jafri, the director of AID on UM-D's campus, headed the event on Tuesday.
Titled "American Power and Global Security," the conference consisted of two speakers from UM-D and two from Morocco who each gave a five minute presentation. Following the presentations, informal dialogue was waged between the two universities.
Jouri Shahbandar, a senior Political Science major was the only speaker from UM-D that was in attendance for the event.
"America should promote democracy, but not enforce it," Shahbandar said.
"The people in the Arab world are very much interested in the notion of democracy," an unnamed Moroccan student said.
Morning traffic seemed to be the main reason for a 15-minute delayed start. Patrick Case was also supposed to present at the conference.
