As students walked through the halls to get to their classes and gather in the University Center last week, they were bombarded with flashbacks of high school. The words "We are UM-D Homecoming 2007" was everywhere. Flyers, key chains, shirts, office doors, blow-up inflatables and pins were all signs to students to mark the first ever Homecoming at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Lions, tigers and bears, oh my! No, wait, it was snakes, turtles and lizards. Last Thursday, the Student Environmental Association and the Student Organizations Activities Council brought wildlife biologist Jim McGrath, founder of Nature Discovery, to the University of Michigan-Dearborn University Center.
Moralist, philosopher and gay-rights activist Dr. John Corvino visited the University of Michigan- Dearborn campus last Tuesday to present his lecture "What's morally wrong with Homosexuality?" The point of which was not to champion the merits of homosexuality, but to openly discuss and dissect the reasons often cited against it.
The Student Activities Board sponsored slot car racing last Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The race was a part of SAB's Thursday afternoon series. This is the series that brings comedians, musicians, wax hands and other fun events to campus. "The event brought something new to campus," said Katie Samson, SAB member.
