With Michigan's notorious winter winding down, as the days grow longer and warmer, the arrival of summer, with all of its freedoms and possibilities, is a welcome change. But we all know the summer around here is fleeting. Making the most of the time we have - including finding ways to enjoy the current spring/winter hybrid season - is what every Michigander knows all too well.
As far as local music goes, the bar scene is one of the best ways to catch free local acts. Music lovers beware: just because it's free doesn't mean it's good. I've spent my fair share of time in bars as a visitor and employee; some acts have been great, while others shouldn't have ever left their garage.

iPod has some new competition: a wristwatch from car manufacturer BMW. With the BMW MP3 Watch, users can listen to music, record messages and store up to 512 megabites of data - all right in the palm of their hand, er - wrist of their arm. The MP3 player, which the company describes on their Web site as "discreet," can record and play up to 60 songs, which translates to 4-5 hours of music.
Moviegoers have been in a funk lately, mainly because the past months' major releases have lacked, well, anything that would make them worth seeing. However, the buzz has already begun for this spring and summer and trailers are hyping what audiences hope will be the warmer months' blockbusters.
