EDITORIAL: Vote Muhi/Haxhillari in SG elections

By M.J. Editorial Board

As Student Government elections approach, UM-D students are being bombarded with the usual campaign slogans and promises. It falls now to voters to wade through the campaign hype and decide which candidates will deliver on their promises. First and foremost, we at The Michigan Journal encourage students to take the time to vote.

EDITORIAL: UM-D sororities fight stereotypes

By M.J. Editorial Board

Every person has likely dealt with a stereotype, and be they positive or negative, they are usually destructive. Unfortunately, this doesn't stop them from being rampant on college campuses - and perhaps no stereotype is stronger than that of the frat boy/sorority girl.

COLUMN: Hurrah for those who say 'vagina' instead of 'hoo-ha'

By Rebecca Mahfouz

In the normal run of things, I would probably not be called upon to use the word "vagina" in my column. In fact, I would generally demur using the word vagina in public. Most circumstances just don't seem to warrant its use, so I'm off the hook, usually. Lewis Libby himself. I worked with this man at the Hudson Institute this past summer, and wanted to tell the readers of your paper about the side of the man not portrayed by the media.

COLUMN: Our immigration problems are the fault of NAFTA, not people

By Rob Switzer

The debate on Mexican-American immigration has been raging in the United States for years. President Bush has discussed the issue as recently as last week after meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, pledging to push reforms on U.S. immigration policies.

COLUMN: Volunteering a long-lost art at UM-Dearborn?

By Ryan Schreiber

For all the students out there wanting to make a difference in the world, there's more to it than making loads of money, owning an oceanfront property or overseeing a staff of 30. As myself and six others from UM-D experienced first-hand last week, our country is loaded with impoverished people and countless others who had everything, then lost it all due to uncontrollable circumstances.
