All-Star History in Detroit This year the Midsummer Classic will make its fourth appearance within Detroit city limits. Previous games were held in 1941, 1951 and 1971. During the '71 contest, future Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson hit a one-out pitch by Dock Ellis out of Tiger Stadium, striking the light tower on the roof.
Former Michigan Wolverine and current Philadelphia 76er Chris Webber was recently in town to talk to children in Inkster about the importance of reading. After his time with the kids, he took a few moments to sit down and answer some questions for the MJ. Michigan Journal: What's it like to come out and spend some time with kids in the summertime and off-season? Chris Webber: It's fun because reading to me is a big part of it but it's just a piece of what I try to present to them.
The University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolves basketball team has added key ingredients in pursuit of one main goal this season: winning more games. "I expect to have a better record this year," Coach Charles Turner said. "I think at least .500 or better." The team's record last season was 11-22.
Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr seems quite excited about the prospects of the team he'll put on the field for the 2005 season. And that's not a regular sight from a guy with a demeanor that rivals a cloistered monk. The Wolverines finished with a 9-3 record in 2004 and ended with a heartbreaking loss to the Texas Longhorns in the Rose Bowl, 38-37.

Coming from a 3-30 finish in their first season in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference, the stakes are high this coming year for the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team.
The volleyball season is approaching fast and the women of the University of Michigan-Dearborn are preparing both physically and mentally for the upcoming year. For a pre-season warm-up, the team recently played at an Open National Championship Tournament in Colorado with the Victors Volleyball Club.
